How to Shop at Vons

by Jess on February 21, 2010

Vons, is an affiliate store in the major grocery store chain, Safeway. Vons is the second largest grocery store chain in Southern California and also has stores in Las Vegas, NV.

Vons offers a FREE loyalty reward program named, Vons Club. This club card provides members additional savings on items throughout the store and online. To sign up, print off a form online or ask for one at the customer service desk. Make sure you scan your club card every time you check out.

Vons Sale Schedule

Weekly sales at Vons run on a Wednesday-Tuesday schedule. They often offer 3-Day Super Sales which generally run Friday-Sunday.

Double Coupon Policy

As of 8/20/2008
, Vons currently doubles manufacturer coupons up to $1.00. If a coupon is less than or equal to 50¢ it’s value will be doubled. If a coupon is more than 50¢ but less than $1.00, it’s value will be capped at $1.00. Any coupon over $1.00 will be redeemed at face value.

Only the first like coupon will be doubled. For example say you have two, 50¢/1 Betty Crocker Frosting coupons. Only the first one will double to a $1 value, the second one will remain at 50¢.

Vons Coupon Policy

On June 7, 2010, Vons updated their Official Coupon Acceptance Policy. I highly suggest printing this policy and carrying it with you on your shopping trips. The official policy is quite extensive, however here is a brief summary:

  • You may use (1) Manufacturer Coupon & (1) Vons Store Coupon on a single item purchased.
  • You may NOT use a coupon on the free item in a “Buy One, Get One Free” store sale.
  • If you use a coupon with a value greater than the value of the item, it will be reduced.
  • Vons will allow you to use manufacturer coupons that display another retailer’s logo or name. They will also accept Catalina manufacturer coupons that are issued to you by another retailer.
  • Coupons must have an expiration date.
  • You may use printable coupons at Vons, provided they scan at checkout.
  • You may NOT use “free product” printable coupons (Buy One, Get One Free coupons are ok).

Vons Store Coupons & Super Coupons

    Vons “Super Price” Coupons
These coupons are often found in the weekly flyer. Most of the time, there is a minimum $10 grocery purchase required in order to use any of the Vons coupons. Sometimes the minimum is $20 and sometimes you can only use it on a certain day. Always check the coupon restrictions. The minimum grocery purchase does not mean you have to buy $10 worth of the product you are wanting to use the coupon on, it just means that your grocery order in general needs to be at least $10. What’s nice about this restriction is that the total is BEFORE coupons & discounts!

    Where to Find Vons Coupons

    Mail
The most obvious is through their weekly store flyer that is delivered with the junk mail. Mine usually comes in Tuesday’s mail – the day before the new sale begins.

    E-Mail
You can also receive exclusive coupons by signing up for their e-mail newsletter coupons.

    Printable Coupons
You can print Manufacturer as well as Vons Store coupons by going to their Coupon Link Center on their website. Here you can also load E-Coupons & Vons Store E-Coupons directly onto your Vons Club Card.

    Safeway/Vons Scan Accuracy Policy

We guarantee the accuracy of our electronic checkout system. Safeway will give you the item free, if the price on your detailed receipt is different (higher or lower) than indicated in advertisements or shown on the shelf price tag. You will only receive one of the items for free with the remaining items at the correct price.

If the item is on sale and register rings up the regular price, the store will only pay the difference on the item. If a customer is overcharged on a Buy One Get One special, not only will they receive the free item, they will receive the overcharged item free as well. It is subjected to a limit of one.

This does not apply to liquor, tobacco, or fluid milk items. In these cases, you will get the item at the sale price instead of free.

Jessica~ It is nice to find a great website like yours with listings that might apply to my area, because you are so close to where I live (SLO County). Thank you for your detailed coupon info for Vons…even though I have been shopping there for years, I learned some new things!
I do have to point out, though, that Vons no longer doubles coupons in all areas. Unfortunately, they stopped doing that up here several years ago.

Seriously, I didn't know about the second "like" coupon not being doubled. I've been using multiple coupons for a while and honestly, never realized that on my receipt..bummer! Guess I'm not as savvy as I thought I was, lol.. I suppose one way around it, would be to use separate transactions…though this could be very tedious, and take a long time. What are your thoughts?

I’ve been using both a store coupon and a manufacturer’s coupon on 1 product but I don’t read anything about that in the coupon policy of vons. I know this is allowed because I’ve been doing it but sometimes there are just these cashiers who make it hard for coupon users and not allow it. Can you maybe tell me what number/where I can find this in the coupon policy? Thanks.

Also do you know of any update to Von’s registers? I got a lot of free stuff last year from e-coupons. At times I get 2-3 e-coupons for the same product (different expiration dates) then I pair them up with a manufacturer’s coupon. All the e-coupons and paper coupons worked at checkout.

Last week I wanted to use a paper coupon for a product but the cashier said the register wouldn’t take it because I had ‘too many coupons’, apparently I have loaded an e-coupon for that item. I saw the e-coupon came off at the register but the weird thing is that when I got home there was no e-coupon on my receipt, no discount. Have you experienced problems with e-coupons in Vons?

ringkang, I had trouble w exactly what you are talking about tonight with the ecoupons they would not let me use a normal coupon for something I didn’t even realize I had a e-coupon for, but it didn’t show up on my receipt that it took off for the ecoupon. I didn’t do so great on couponing tonight at vons. I mean I did save but not as much as I think I should of. maybe I will try Ralphs next week. Although I am really new to this all but I bought all the match up deals and had alot of store and manufacture coupons for almost everything i bought except produce – (which i did have a dollar off coupon that was at the front of the store) Oh and my Catalina didn’t print out but I guess I can contract them on that. I definitely spent enough for that!
