Using Target Store Coupons

by Jess on March 27, 2010

A couple of you have e-mailed me with questions regarding how to use coupons at Target. Target has a reputation of denying coupons when the corporate policy clearly allows it so it’s important to know what’s ok & what’s not.

Target Coupon Policy

I highly suggest printing the Target Coupon Policy and keeping it in your purse in case you have any troubles at the register.

Target’s coupon policy is very clear:

  • Target accepts one manufacturer coupon and one target store coupon for the same item.
  • Target coupons published as Super Target Coupons can be used at any Target store.
  • Target accepts coupons printed from the internet.
  • If the value of a coupon exceeds the price of an item, it is corporate policy to adjust the coupon to the price of the item. Cash back or “overage” is not allowed.

Target Store Coupons

Target Printable Coupons
Target offers a multitude of printable coupons available on their website everyday & many of them are for items that typically don’t offer coupons such as home decor, clothing and more. Many of the coupons available are Target store coupons which means if you also have a manufacturer coupon you can use both to save even more! The only pesky thing about printing coupons from Target.com is there is no way of knowing if the coupon you are about to print will be a manufacturer coupon or a store coupon.

Target Mobile Coupons
In early 2010 Target introduced mobile coupons that allow shoppers to receive exclusive coupons via their cellphone. You’ll need to use a web-enabled mobile phone & standard messaging rates do apply. Target usually sends out new mobile coupons twice a month. They are fairly easy to use. Simply have the cashier scan the bar code on your phone.

Target Sunday Insert Coupons
Every now & then Target publishes store coupons in the Sunday paper.

Target Catalina Coupons
Chances are you may have noticed many Target registers are now equipped with Catalina machines similar to those found at the grocery store. Catalinas are coupons that print out at the register after you make a purchase. These coupons are great to hang on to because often they contain savings for items you wouldn’t typically see a coupon available on (like shoes, decor, clothing etc).

Any of the Target coupons listed above may be used in addition to a manufacturer coupon to save more! If you’re told otherwise, consult the Target Coupon Policy with the cashier or manager. If they are unable to help you call Target Corporate at 1.800.440.0680

The policy states that they can't accept coupons from other retailers, does that include catalinas issued at other retailers?

Can I use other store coupons and a manufacturer on one item? Which stores accept other store coupons?
Thanks for your help. As you can see I’m new to coupon shopping. I want to do things the correct way at the check out.
