My Vons Trip – 22 items for only $13.97!

by Jess on August 16, 2010

It’s been awhile since I last shared one of my shopping trips, because honestly? I was a little burned out on the whole “coupon thing” and hadn’t done much shopping. I’m sure many of you can relate. Plus, it didn’t help that I let almost 5 weeks go by without clipping my coupons and organizing them in my binder. It was a mess.

I finally tackled the mountain of coupons, peelies, & catalinas that I had floating around my car, purse, & apartment and once I actually finished organizing them (3 hours later *sigh*), I was once again excited to get back to the thrill of scoring a great deal with a coupon. It’s amazing how much a little organization can help refuel the fire.

Anyway, long story short, I hit up Vons yesterday to take advantage of the awesome deals that are going on this week. See that picture up there? I ended up spending $13.97 out of pocket for all of it. Considering the shelf price for all of them was just under $80, I think I did pretty good and it worked out to a 82% overall savings. YAY!

I did this in two transactions, because when you purchase 5 or more Nature Valley or Fiber One products you earn a $3.50 catalina, which is essentially just a store coupon you can use on anything you want. That then helped to pay for the grapes, cheese, & ground turkey I picked up.

My total could have been less, but I decided to splurge on the Tide Laundry Detergent for $2.99 and some dip from the deli for $2.49. One thing to note was my store coupons for the $1/1 Primo Taglio Cheese & the $1/1 Signature Cafe Dip from the “Get Out & Grill” coupon booklet. As I had feared, they both scanned as 1¢/1. I ended up catching it when the cashier rang it up & she adjusted both to $1/1, but when I came home and looked at my receipt only one of them was fixed. UGH! What is with Vons & their coupons not ringing up correctly?

Anyway, thanks to e-coupons that I had previously loaded to my Vons Club card through sites like Cellfire & Shortcuts, several multiples ended up coming off at the register, which was a nice surprise & dramatically lowered my bill. In fact, I had over $15 in e-coupon savings!

I always suggest loading any available e-coupons onto your club card because you never know when a great sale will come along. Cellfire is of my favorites for e-coupons because often they will release the same e-coupons each week and you end up with multiples of the same e-coupon. When you get to the register and buy a product you have an e-coupon for, all of the e-coupons you have loaded for that product will come off – even if you only buy one!

I’m not going to type out my whole trip with the coupons that I used because you can check out the Vons match-up for them, but here were my favorites from the trip:

  • Pillsbury Sweet Moments | $1.99 with in-ad coupon
    - $1/1 e-coupon
    - $1/1 from GM 8/8 (there’s also a printable here)
    Final Price: FREE
  • (2) Pillsbury Cookie Dough | $1.99 each with in-ad coupon
    - (I had 3) $1/2 e-coupons
    - (2) 55¢/1 from GM 8/8 (1 doubled to $1/1)
Final Price: FREE + 57¢ profit
  • (2) Betty Crocker Supreme Brownie Mix | $2.19 each
    - (I had 5) 75¢/2 e-coupons
    - 75¢/2 from GM 8/8
Final Price: FREE + 37¢ profit
  • Tide Stain Release | $5.99 with in-ad coupon
    - $3/1 e-coupon
    - $3/1 from PG 8/1
    Final Price: FREE

So all in all $13.97 isn’t bad for 22 items, especially considering I wasn’t able to do any of the deals that included printable coupons thanks to my possessed printer.

I’d love to hear how you did at Vons! Let me know in the comments below!

I have yet to try the Tide deal, when I loaded up the Tide and Downy e-coupons, on P&G it almost loaded them until it stated that there was an error. Anyone else find any problems with this??? Awesome week at Vons by the way. I did a total of 8 boxes, snacks…and I made 50 cents profit. Wooo Hoo..

I did the Tide Stain Release deal and the P&G e-coupon came off along with the vons and mq, no problems.

thanks. I actually figured out how to fix it. What I did was delete them, and then reloaded them back. That worked. I just went to Vons this afternoon, and got everything for about $2 that was tax included. I saw my total before anything, and my mouth dropped, it was $38 . WOW!!!

Using many of your hints, I was able to buy 16 items and only spent $5.92 plus I got a $2.00 on my next purchase. I saved about 84%, I'm just getting started with couponing but am already addicted!
