Why I love Vons: $8 dollars for $54 worth of food!

by Jess on October 4, 2010

$8.03 for everything above!

I don’t usually highlight a lot of my shopping trips because they’re nothing spectacular, I mean they are to me, but I’m just a single girl living with my cat so I have to be reasonable in the amount of stuff I pick up or a lot of it expires or goes bad before I can get to it.

Earlier today I stopped in Vons and was determined to get my hands on at least one more of those elusive $70 Coupon Booklets so I could stock up on some free Coffee-mate creamer with the $1 coupon that is inside. As you can see from my picture, I didn’t find it, and worse, Customer Service said they were all gone (yeah, sure). GRRR……at least I got one last week.

Here’s what I got today for $8.03 out of pocket, which is really not bad considering I can’t do any of the deals where printable coupons are involved because I’m too cheap to fix my printer (sigh).

(2) Foster Farms Ground Turkey, 1-lb. | BOGO ($2.50 each)
- 75¢/1 e-coupon (no clue where this came from, but what fun!)
Final Price: $4.24 for 2 lbs!

(2.27 lbs.) Grapes | 88¢ lb.
Final Price: $2.00

(1) Fresh Green Beans, 12-oz. | $1.99 with in-ad coupon

(6) Yoplait Yogurt Cups | 50¢ each
- 40¢/6 from GM 10/3 (doubled to 80¢/6)
- and (3) 40¢/6 e-coupons were applied!
Final Price: $1 for all 6

(1) Coffee-mate Creamer | 99¢ with in-ad coupon
- $1/1 from Vons “Over $70 in Savings” Coupon Booklet
Final Price: FREE + 1¢ in overage!

(1) Cara Mia Marinated Artichoke Hearts | $1.00 (these are on sale again!)
- $1/1 from Vons “Fresh Ideas Brochure”
Final Price: FREE!

(4) Progresso Soup | 99¢ each
- $1/4 from GM 10/3
and – (4) 50¢/2 e-coupons were applied!
Final Price: 96¢ for all 4

(1) Betty Crocker Cake Mix | 89¢ with in-ad coupon
(1) Betty Crocker Frosting | $1.50

- 75¢/2 GM 10/3 (doubled to $1/2)
and – (2) 50¢/2 e-coupons were applied! (I had more saved but not all came off)
Final Price: 39¢ for both

(4) Betty Crocker Potatoes | 99¢
- (2) 50¢/2 from GM 10/3 (one doubled to $1/2)
and – (4) 50¢/2 e-coupons were applied!
Final Price: 46¢ for all 4

Subtotal: $11.03
- $3/1 catalina I earned from the Pillsbury promo last week
Final Price Out of Pocket: $8.03 (85% off!)

This transaction is a perfect example of why it is so important to load all of the e-coupons you see on sites like Cellfire or Shortcuts when they are released. When you purchase an item that you have an e-coupon for, that triggers the register to deduct ALL of the e-coupons you have saved to your club card! The more you have saved, the less out of pocket.

Hi I didn't know coupons that are …for example. $.50/3 also double. I always thought it was the single coupons…like $.50/1.

The $70 Coupon Booklets were hanging all over the freezer section in my San Diego Vons.

Laura: Yep, they do! ANY coupon up to 50¢ in value will double at Vons & Ralphs. The only catch is that they will only double one "like" coupon per transaction. For example, if you have two 50¢/2 coupons for M&M's, only the first one will double.

Kimberly$3?!? That's awesome!!!

I just got back and I bought one cake mix, two frosting, two Progresso soups, one box NV bars, two boxes of Betty Crocker potatos, two Pillsbury grands and one inperial sticks. I spent $0.22 and I got back a $1 Catalina coupon from buying two frosting. I love it when I make money buying food.
