Lighten Up by Peter Walsh Book Giveaway!

Lighten Up by Peter WalshMany of you may already know Peter Walsh, a clutter expert and organizational consultant who frequented the The Oprah Show as well as having his own show, “Enough Already!” which airs on OWN. I recently got my hands on his newest book, Lighten Up: Love What You Have, Have What You Need, Be Happier with Less and knew right away I had to share it with you all!

No doubt all of us have been touched by the economic downturn. Many of us have lost our jobs, hours have been cut back, and real estate prices have well…seen better days. Even if you haven’t been directly affected, learning how to navigate this new reality by making tough decisions on what to spend, how to spend less, and most of all make significant changes in your long-term habits of overconsumption is essential. During this time of year it’s so easy to over-spend on gifts and lose track of what really matters.

Lighten Up isn’t your ordinary financial book. Inside you’re not going to find out how much money you should be saving each month or what your retirement fund should look like at 65. Instead, Lighten Up focuses on the BIG picture by featuring step-by-step real solutions and exercises to help you work towards releasing your financial fears and learn to live a happier abundant life with less.

In Lighten Up, you’ll learn how to:

  • Change the way you and your family measure happiness
  • Face your financial situation and set realistic priorities
  • Create space for what really matters
  • Plan realistically for financial and emotional security
  • Be happier with less

Peter quotes a fantastic line from the movie Fight Club in this book; “The things you own end up owning you.” How many of you can relate to that?! The home you couldn’t really afford to begin with and the monthly payment that now looms over you each month? The “must-have” Apple product that you have long since ditched but yet is a never-ending payment on your credit card because you can only afford the minimum payment? This book will force you to sit down and think through what that costs you physically, spiritually and emotionally so you can move forward living the life of “less is more”.

When I lost my job in late 2009 I learned how to live on less, with less, and let me tell you, it’s not only freeing but very much empowering. Creating a habit to routinely ask myself if what I was purchasing was a need or a want really deterred me from making some very foolish spending decisions. Walsh hits the nail on the head with this book when it comes to that mindset & even though I already follow many of his tips, it was refreshing to get remotivated towards my personal and financial goals.

Do you want to learn how to live happier with less? Check out Peter Walsh’s Lighten Up: Love What You Have, Have What You Need, Be Happier with Less on Amazon or at a bookstore near you!
